Project Brief

For our senior thesis, we were allowed to go in any direction we wanted with no distinct direction, so long as the project was something interesting to both ourselves and for an audience. My indecisiveness was definitely a huge factor when considering what direction I would even take this project, and soon after a while that indecisiveness is something I wanted to focus more on.

Coin Flip Design Goals

For my project thesis I focused on the aspect of a coin flip. This little game can be considered one of the truest ways we have of a 50/50, and I wanted to focus on designing what I consider the different mindsets for the usage of flipping a coin. The different ways a coin flip can help us understand a decision or settle a dispute, and how it can be used to possibly impact the direction of our lives.

Theory behind the Coin

The way I see it, the coin flip could be broken down into 3 sides which I wanted to focus more on and design elements for each one of those mentalities. The Analytical side for those that are more interested in the physics and mathematics behind the coin and how accurate this device that we consider a 50/50 really is. The Lucky side for the gambler's that love the thrill of risking something and having no control over the outcome but having the luck to win it all even if the odds aren't necessarily in their favor. The Fortune side for the ones who believe that everything happens for a reason. That at the end of the day, you have no control over the decision because everything happens for a reason and everything that is meant to happen will work out and happen at the end of it all, as if the stars will always align.
